It’s been twenty years and the aliens are back in Independence Day: Resurgence. With Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivicia Fox back to star in the film, with few familiar new faces. Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Maika Monroe join the cast as the new young heroes, although their characters aren’t very new. For Maika Monroe, she’s just the grown up version of one little girl that lost her mom during the original film, the daughter of President Whitmore, while Jessie Usher is portraying the young, future step-son to Will Smith’s character in the original film. Now all grown up, he’s a pilot himself.
With that in mind, it’s almost like the film is keeping the drama in the family, as the aliens have gotten bigger and all the worse as they come back, twenty years after the events in the original film, to fight off this menace that has come back to seek revenge against the planet that killed so many aliens back in 1996.
