After the 2009 hit Avatar, there were rumors of a sequel but never any concrete proof. Well ladies and gentleman, we now have proof of not only one sequel, but three sequels to come in the next few years. At CinemaCon on Thursday, director James Cameron revealed that he would be making four sequels to Avatar, with the first film hitting theaters in 2018. The news comes with excitement as fans have been waiting to hear confirmation of some kind of sequel since the first film was released.

The plan for the films is the first sequel, Avatar 2 (or whatever future title the film will get), releases in 2018, with plans to have three more squels after the first initial one releasing every couple of years. So far, the expected release dates for these films are 2020, 2022, and 2023. The films will each focus on a separate, standalone story set on the world of Pandora, Cameron told the audience. Once completed, the concurrently filmed movies will form a “complete saga”.

“The next time I see you will be on Pandora,” Cameron told the full theater, and we couldn’t be more excited for that news. Are you eager to see what stories are to come from Cameron and Pandora in the future?
