The first trailer for biopic Nina has arrived with a state of controversy. That controversy includes the lead actress who is portraying Nina Simone, Zoe Saldana. A talented actress, who seems to shine in the trailer as the tempestuous Nina, it’s being said that someone else should have been chosen for the role. But let’s set the politics aside and look at the film for what it is, a depiction of a person’s life, which pays tribute to the great achievements of Nina Simone in both the music industry and the civil rights movement. That’s it. No politics here.
Cynthia Mort will be making her directorial debut with the film that will not only star Saldana but also David Oyelowo, Mike Epps and Ella Thomas. The film is set to depict the story of Simone’s life and how her rise to power affected her in both positive and negative ways. Sadly, this film will be looked upon not for the actual story, but for all the controversy surrounding it, but take this moment to enjoy the trailer, which gives a peak into the chaotic life of Simone, from drinking and drug problems to her rise during the civil rights movement. Nina Simone is a great woman who deserves her own movie.
Set to be released on April 22, this film is sure to have everyone talking.
