Fans of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series is about to become a film starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Nikolaj Arcel will be directing the film and is the co-writer of the script. The series spans eight novels and will make a wonderful series on screen. The series has been in the works for a while now, with the film finally in pre-production. Stephen King posted the news on his Twitter account on March 1. Arcel and King also did an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly stating that he will start shooting The Dark Tower in South Africa in seven weeks with Sony Pictures producing it. The plan is to have the film out in theaters next January 13, 2017.

Elba will be portraying gunslinger Roland while Matthew McConaughey will be portraying his mystical foe known as the man in black. If you don’t know the story, then here’s a little bit about it. The story takes place in Mid-World and is told through the eyes of Roland Deschain, a frontiersman Knight who wields a deadly pair of revolvers. To save his decaying world, he must go on a quest by reaching the tower that stands between time and space. By drawing help from our world, they must all set out to reach the tower.
Reports state that Abbey Lee will also be joining the cast as Tirana, but it is still unclear who will be playing the rest of the cast. Keep watch for more news from the set of The Dark Tower.
