Rapunzel and Eugene of the Disney favorite Tangled is coming to the Disney Channel in 2017. The show will be titled Tangled: Before Ever After and will be set between the end of the film and the beginning of the animated short Tangled Ever After. The premise of the show is to show the story of how Rapunzel learns to be a princess, after spending her entire life locked away in a tower.
This is not the first time that Disney Television Animation has produced a show based on a successful Disney film. In the past, there have been animated shows based off of The Lion King, Hercules, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Each of them told a different story to add onto the one that the film told and that viewers fell in love with in theaters. For The Lion King, it was the show Timon & Pumbaa, which aired from 1995 to 1999 and featured our favorite two side kicks from the film. It featured some of the main characters, but was mostly the story of how Timon and Pumbaa lived their life after the events in the film. Then for the show based off of Hercules, which had the same name, aired from 1998 to 1999 and was about Hercules growing up and training to be a hero. Basically it’s the time during the musical number that Hercules becomes powerful and finishes his training. The point is, that Disney has found success when they bring some of their favorite animated films to the small screen in TV shows the entire family can enjoy.
For Tangled: Before Ever After, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will be reprising their roles, voicing Rapunzel and Eugene (aka Flynn Rider), while many others will be joining the cast, including Eden Espinosa and Ashley Judd. The show will also have brand new original songs created by Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, who both worked on the original film.
