Daniel Gerson, one of the minds behind Monsters, Inc. and Big Hero 6, has passed away at 49. His family sadly announced that he passed away in his home in Los Angeles on Saturday from brain cancer. His work with Pixar/Disney animated films has been beloved in past years, teaming with Robert L. Baird and Jordan Roberts at times on screenplays for some of our favorites. From Monsters, Inc. (2001), Cars (2006), Up (2009), Big Hero 6 (2014) and the film that captured all of our hearts in the last year: Inside Out (2015). Before he died he had been working on the screenplay for Cars 3 with Baird, which is scheduled to be released in 2017.
Gerson began his writing career as a staff writer on the NBC-ABC sitcom Something So Right. He went on to become a BAFTA Awards winner and multiple Annie Award nominee. Gerson is survived by his wife of 20 years, Beau Stacom, his children, and both of his parents. A storyteller until the end, he will be missed.
