With the release of Finding Dory this week, it’s no shock that news of other Disney-Pixar films is being released, getting us excited for what’s to come from Disney-Pixar. One such film we can plan on anticipating is Cars 3, which will follow up after the spy filled sequel. In popular opinion, the original film was the better of the two that has already been released and thankfully, Disney and Pixar are taking that opinion to heart with this next film.
For the upcoming film, they are hoping to recreate the race-heavy, emotion and feel of the first film, rather than the spy film that came out of Cars 2. When speaking to Entertainment Weekly John Lasseter stated that, “Lightning McQueen, he’s awesome. We’ve got some great new characters, some great racing in it. It’s a very emotional story. It’s a little bit more akin to Cars 1, where you get into a deep emotion with him. It’s a really special story. IT’s very emotional and his relationship with Doc Hudson, and his memory of Doc Hudson.”

We can all agree that Doc Hudson, who was voiced by legend Paul Newman, was one of our favorite characters. He was inspirational and was the voice behind Lightning McQueen’s success. Sadly, when Newman passed away between the first and second movie, Hudson didn’t appear in Cars 2, rather Lighning and Mater had an emotional moment in the museum dedicated to Doc and his racing exploits.
Hopefully, the film will not only honor Doc Hudson’s memory as a character, but also give kids a film to see how to cope with loss and moving forward. We can only wait and see what will happen with this new Cars film and hope that it captures our hearts like other Disney-Pixar films tend to do.
Cars 3 is set to be released in theaters on June 16, 2017.
