After multiple rumors floating around the internet, it has finally been announced that The Vampire Diaries will be ending after it’s 8th season. The rumors began when Nina Dobrev left after season 6 and Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham hinting that they would be done after season 8. So, with all these rumors the cast and producers decided to make everything official at, you guessed it, San Diego Comic Con.
The announcement was accepted with a bittersweet feeling as fans in the audience tried not to cry at the fact that after this next year, their favorite heroes and villains from Mystic Falls will no longer be there every week to comfort them and take them away to a different world for a short hour. But, with this announcement could come good news. Julie Plec, a producer and writer on the show, stated in an interview with TV Line, that she believed that Nina Dobrev would be making a return to the last season of the show, even just a cameo. She stated that Nina made an “emotional promise” to return.

While other members of the cast are skeptical, fans can keep their fingers crossed and hope for Nina to return at least for one episode of the show, to tie off loose ends and bring a beautiful finale to the series.
