Today the acting community lost one its finest and iconic members. British film and theater actor Alan Rickman has passed away at the age of 69.
His unique voice and screen presence will be dearly missed. His iconic role as Hans Gruber in DIE HARD still sets the standard for movie villains. He was so menacing yet charismatic in way that pulls the viewer in, despite his evil intentions.
As Professor Snape in the Harry Potter franchise, he brought the literary anti-hero to life in a magical way. His commitment and measured performance is what made the character so endearing.
Looking over his most famous lines, I cannot help but hear it in that chilling, magnetic voice. Everything he touched was better for it. The Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Alexander Dane from Galaxy Quest, and Metatron from Dogma are just a few more of the exemplary characters that will last forever thanks to Rickman’s on-screen grace and command. His entire filmography stands out as one masterful performance after the another.
