The 1982 classic Blade Runner is getting a sequel after over thirty years since the original was released. The new film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) and will star Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.  One of the original writers has come back to pen the sequel, Hampton Fancher, with Michael Green co-writing. The story is based off one by Fancher and Ridley Scott and picks up several decades after the conclusion of the original. This makes for a wonderful return to the mythology of the film.

The rights to the film have been acquired by Alcon Entertainment, with the film set to release January 12, 2018, which falls on the MLK holiday weekend for that year. With principal photography set to begin in July.

The original film, starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, who is known as a blade runner. His goal, is to find four replicants who have returned to Earth on a stolen space ship to find the one who created them. The film also stars Rutger Hauer, Sean young and Edward James Olmos, with director Ridley Scott at the helm. Check out the original trailer below, as you gear up for the sequel.
