Hopefully, if you’re a Disney fan, you didn’t miss the two-hour special on Sunday night on ABC and the premiere of the first trailer for Pete’s Dragon. The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 was a touching and amazing tribute not only to the park that Walt Disney created, but the legacy that he left behind for all of us to enjoy for years to come. From tributes to the films we grew up loving to sneak peaks into the future of Disney Parks, a highlight from the night was a look at the first trailer for the upcoming Disney remake, Pete’s Dragon.
Introduced by one of the stars of the film, Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Disney had released the first, true poster for the film leading up to the show and release of the trailer. The trailer itself, is full of mystery and magic, as it sets up the storyline for the retelling of the classic tale. Howard’s character Grace is a forest ranger, and when a young boy is discovered in the forest her fathers crazy stories of a mythical dragon residing deep in the woods, begins to make a little bit of sense. Pete (Oakes Fegley) is an orphan who has survived in the woods of the Pacific Northwest for six years. Although it looks like he’s been alone the entire time, he claims he lives with his friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon.
The reimagining of the 1977 classic will bring the story to light for a younger Disney audience in a live action film that is sure to capture the hearts of both the youth of the world and the adults who grew up watching the original. With an all star cast including Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Robert Redford (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) the film is being anticipated as one of the summers hottest films.
