It’s official! Paramount Pictures will be producing a film adaptation of Little House on the Prairie, based upon the series of children’s books written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the television series that began in 1974. It seems a new generation will now get the chance to fall in love with Wilder’s novels, while those who fell in love as children get to share that passion with their own children.
Sean Durkin (Marth Marcy May Marlene) will be directing the film with Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady) writing the screenplay. At this time there has been no announcement of cast members, so we’ll have to keep our eyes open for who is to star in this latest remake.
The source material, written by Wilder, were based on Wilder’s life and the Ingalls family. The television show did not stick to the source material, as in the books they don’t stay in the treasured Walnut Grove, and yet there’s something to be said about the charm of both the books and the television series. It will be hard for this remake to live up to it’s predecessors and we’re excited to see what direction it will be going.
