The Little Mermaid is coming as a live-action film, which we’ve known for a while, but the big news that has hit the news stands today is that Hamilton creator and former star Lin-Manuel Miranda is joining Alan Menken in creating the music and co-producing the film. Disney has set up a huge line up of live-action remakes for the upcoming years and in recent times. With the recent success of The Jungle Book and Pete’s Dragon, it’s no shock that Disney wants to keep the ball rolling with a few of their favorite classics.
Before The Little Mermaid hits theaters, Beauty and the Beast will be released in theaters as a live-action film. See Miranda’s latest work in Disney’s upcoming animated film Moana, in which he wrote all the songs for the film. With that already under his belt and working alongside a great like Menken, it will be no shock that the live-action The Little Mermaid will hopefully capture our hearts (and not tear them out and step on them because come on, this is our childhood).
