Like it or not, there is going to be a Little Mermaid remake coming our way. We’ve seen the list of remakes coming from Disney recently, or our favorite films that are being made into live action films, but The Little Mermaid will be done by Working Title Films rather than Walt Disney. But the uproar isn’t from who is making the film, it’s the main characters’ hair color that has come into question. Instead of being the usual red head that we all know and love, the creators of this new version of The Little Mermaid are taking it back to the roots, back to Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale where the mermaid wasn’t a red head, but in fact a blonde.

Cast as the role of Ariel is Chloe Grace Moretz, a blonde herself, who spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the film and the characters’ hair color. In fact, Moretz told ET that she wanted to dye her hair red, but was told that her hair needed to remain blonde for the film due to the authenticity to the original fairytale.

Sadly, that means the recognizable little mermaid we all grew up with is getting a makeover, starting with her hair. But that’s not all that is going to be changed, as Moretz told ET that “we’re making it progressive for women in this day and age.” Could that mean that it’s not all about a princess changing herself for the man of her dreams? If that’s the case, what is the film going to be about since that’s the basis of the entire story.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited to see The Little Mermaid? Or do you wish they would just leave all this remake business alone?
