News has hit from Universal Pictures regarding the upcoming The Mummy reboot that is in pre-production. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to spread the word that Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella is in talks to play the title role of the film! So it does look like there’s going to be a female monster after all, which fans have been speculating for the past few months. With a modern take on the classic story and legendary character, it very well could be possible, that Boutella and Tom Cruise, who was reported to be in talks for the lead male role in November, will be the new faces for the reboot.

The Mummy will be the first film in Universal Studios plans to create a “shared universe” for their famous monsters and their films. Alex Kurtzman is set to direct The Mummy, while Jon Spaihts is penning the script. The Mummy is set to be released on March 24, 2017 with another monster flick to hit theaters March 30, 2018.
